Internationally Active Insurance Groups - IAIG

With the increasing interconnectedness of the global economy, insurance companies have expanded their global presence. Internationally Active Insurance Groups (“IAIGs”) are insurance holding company systems that operate and write premiums in multiple national jurisdictions while also meeting certain other requirements. To effectively regulate IAIGs, one regulator may act as the group-wide supervisor for the entire IAIG across various global jurisdictions.

Pursuant to 215 ILCS 5/131.20d, the Director may determine whether an insurance holding company system is an IAIG and become the group wide supervisor.
