SBS Lookup: How to find an agent in Illinois
State Based Systems step-by-step
- Navigate to SBS Lookup
- Under Jurisdiction select "Illinois”
- Under "Search Type” select "Licensee”
- Click the box next to "I agree to the NAIC’s Terms and Conditions"
- Under "Entity Type" – select "individual" for a broker or insurance agent – select "Business Entity" for an agency or brokerage firm
Searching for a specific Individual or Business Entity by name
- Search by name
- NPN # is the national producer number and is NOT needed to perform the search
Searching for agents or agencies in a specific geographical region
- Select "Advanced Criteria"
- Search by type of license, city and state, zip code, etc. to pull up a list of agents/agencies in the area of your choice
Found your agent or agency?
Click on the agent/agency’s name in the list that populates after completing the search.
- License Quick View – Make sure license status shows “Active”
- Contact Information is provided for the agent below the “Quick View”
- “Line of Authority” indicates the types of insurance the agent is licensed to sell – agencies will NOT show lines of authority as those are dependent on the agents’ licenses and not the agency license.
